The Independent says the motorcade transporting U.S. President Donald Trump to a public event in Louisiana Tuesday was involved in a road accident, reporters traveling in the convoy reported.
The motorcade, traveling from Lake Charles to a liquefied natural gas export facility in Hackleberry for a Trump speech, slowed down, the report said.
Reporters said they saw at least two officers on the ground, the newspaper reported, but Trump’s vehicle, an armored limousine, was believed to be fine.
Witnesses, using social media, confirmed the reporter accounts, The Independent reported, saying they had seen officers being treated for injuries near the highway, with some of the officers sitting or standing up.
Pool journalist Meridith McGraw reported seeing “two officers standing and being tended to with very bloodied arms as we drove by,” the report said.
Images of the crash show one officer in a grassy area between two lanes on the highway, apparently in the process of sitting up, the newspaper reported. Another photo showed an officer lying down on the side of the road while receiving assistance.
Despite the road accident, Trump is still expected to speak at the facility, albeit “a little bit late” according to MSNBC.
