With the prospect of the Islamic State terrorist group facing its demise, the group’s leaders have reportedly stashed away millions of dollars to fund a new wave of attacks against Britain and the West, The Sun newspaper reported.

U.N. experts believe ISIS has around $300 million stored in "bulk" – with one report warning the terror group will fund "larger-scale attacks once the opportunity arises,” the report said.

The warning comes amid reports ISIS faces being routed in Syria after years of fighting by British and U.S. special forces narrowing the noose, The Sun reported.

On Monday, Kurdish-led coalition forces continued their battle to clear the village of Baghouz, where the remaining ISIS forces are holed up in fortified positions, the report said.

The purge has been slowed by landmines and sniper fire as fighters desperately battled to hold off the overwhelming onslaught, The Sun reported.

In addition, the UN Security Council has reported ISIS currently has 18,000 fighters at the ready to fight to the death, the report concluded.
