A breakthrough, new weapon currently installed on two Russian warships  reportedly can disrupt the eyesight of targets as well as make them hallucinate and vomit, The Hill reported Tuesday.

A Russian military contractor has installed the controversial weapon, called the Filin, on the Admiral Gorshkov and Admiral Kasatonov warships, Russian state news agency RIA Novosti reported.

The weapon, according to the report, fires a beam similar to a strobe light that affects the target's eyesight, making it more difficult for them to aim at night.

Volunteers testing the weapon reportedly used rifles and guns to shoot targets protecting the weapon, The Hill reported.

Questioned afterwards, the volunteers reported having having trouble aiming because they were unable to see because of the weapon, the report said.

In addition, about half of the volunteers reported feeling dizzy, nauseous and disoriented as well as reporting they had trouble aiming because they could not see, The Hill reported. Volunteers involved in the test also reported experiencing hallucinations

Ships currently under construction are also expected to have the weapon installed, the report said.

The weapon was developed by Ruselectornics, a Russian state-owned developer of electronics and other technologies, the report concluded.
