Most hockey battles take place in the corners of the rink, fighting for the puck to free for a teammate to take a shot on goal and hopefully score a goal.

However, a Domain Investing report reveals the National Hockey League’s Chicago Blackhawks are involved in a major battle to try and seize control of the Blackhawks.com domain name.

The team has filed a UDRP at the World Intellectual Property Organization and is listed as Chicago Blackhawk Hockey Team, Inc., the report said.

BlackHawks.com has a creation date of September 24, 1995, Domain Investing reports, making it nearly 23 years old.

In addition, the report said, Whois records show the domain name is privately registered, and it appears to have been that way since at least 2007, making it difficult to tell who owns the domain name today.

Domain Investing also reports the domain name is parked, and a visit to the domain name today shows aviation related pay per click advertising links.

The report says the message at the top of the domain name landing page indicates it may be for sale, but the inquiry form does not have a price.

While it would be important to know if the NHL team tried to buy the domain name first, Domain Investing reported, it would also be important to know if the UDRP filing is their “Plan B” attempt to secure the domain name.

The NHL team will need to prove the owner registered and is using the domain name in bad faith, the report said.
